Dean Close Preparatory School 1st VII vs  In2hockey West finals
On: Tuesday, 03 Dec 2019
Venue: Away

A disappointing end to an amazing season and a chance for a shot at 'the double' gone. Not the way we wanted to finish but the girls looked tired today, mentally more than physically. With only 3 teams in our pool due to a withdrawal we won our group comfortably, but even in the second game which we won 8-0 there were signs of being a little switched off and making poor decisions. In the quarter-final against All Hallows we had 95% of possession and spent most of the game in and around their D, but too many poor decisions on where to pass and move, slow reactions and moments of selfishness, meant we were unable to score against their good GK and their defence who tackled and hacked as if their lives depended on it. So it went to penalties - all was equal after the best of three and the first round of sudden death, but on the second round of sudden death our first penalty was saved, while All Hallows scored, to put us out of the tournament.

Despite this disappointment, I am so proud of all that these girls have done this term. They are NATIONAL CHAMPIONS! They have played 39 matches in total, and won 37 of them while the other two were drawn. They have scored 170 goals and conceded 8! That's across VIIs, XIs, school matches and tournaments. Very impressive statistics and they have done what no other DCPS girls' team has managed to do before - win a National hockey title.
