Match Report
Dean Close Preparatory School Girls 1st VII vs  IAPS regionals
On: Thursday, 11 Oct 2018
Venue: Away

The U13 girls travelled to Nottingham to compete in the Midlands region IAPS hockey tournament. We knew we would have a tough first game against Foremarke Hall (Repton's prep school) and so it proved - we lost 1-0 although it was an even game and we did have chances. We re-grouped and went on to beat Bromsgrove 5-0, St Olave's 2-0, The Elms 3-0 and Spratton Hall 3-0, before finishing our group matches with a tired looking 1-1 draw with Wellingborough. We finished comfortably 2nd in the group, with Foremarke Hall in 1st. With a good supply of food and water inside them the girls re-set mentally for the semi-final against Greshams: win, and we were guaranteed a spot in the National Finals; lose, we would have to battle it out in the 3rd/4th place play off as only three teams would go through. The girls were really up for it and returned to their best form, winning very easily 4-0. The job of the day was done, and the girls could relax a little and play the final knowing that a win would be fantastic, but with no pressure. They were amazing! Every single girl played her position the best she possibly could have done, resulting in two really good goals and a convincing win. It was a great turnaround from the first game of the day - on the same pitch and against the same opponents, 4 hours apart! We now look forward to the National Finals on 13th November. Well done, girls; your joy at the end was thoroughly deserved! This was a TEAM performance of the highest quality.
