1st Netball team

This has probably been the netball season I have enjoyed most since joining Dean Close Prep and that despite the disappointment of having far too many fixtures cancelled either by other schools or bad weather. The reason it has been so much fun is down solely to the girls! I could not have wished to share my time with more enthusiastic, happy and coachable girls if I had hand picked them!! Their desire to learn and the focus that they applied to every session is a rare thing in girls so young and consequently the improvement of their play was staggering. Lydia Smith was an exceptional captain leading not only by the standard of her play but with her enthusiasm and support for all the other girls. She was highly organised and demanded high standards from all of the players. Joining her in defence was Izzy Nevin who matched Lydia on ability to intercept the ball endlessly and accuracy of passing up the court. Violet Little-Woolage excelled in defence using her height to put pressure on the opposition's attack, but we also found out Violet could shoot very well and so she became the ultimate utility player moving from GD to GS with massive success. My final defensive player was Vaseva Leweni who showed that having a strong substitute can effect a game so positively. Vaseva started the season nervously but has grown in confidence as the term has progressed. Harriet Minter controlled the centre court with calm effectiveness and boundless energy. She was aided by Lucy Stocks whose ability to get free from her player enabled passing options around the attacking circle. Grace Greaves always gave 100% at all times in matches and with her sound catching and passing enabled the ball to travel to Ollie Moss our resident awesome shooter!

The results were mixed but where we lost it was only by 1/2 goals. We had some notable wins against Cheltenham College and Downs Wraxall and the girls played well at the IAPS tournament despite failing to progress.

Girls I am very proud of how you have trained this term, how you have conducted yourselves in victory and in defeat and for always having the ability to make me smile. I know Mrs Holder is already excited about you arriving in the Senior school next year and what potential you all have as netball players.
